Olympics - Ice Dance

As well as getting tickets for the Opening Ceremonies, I had gotten some to go see Ice Dance with my friend Elise. I headed downtown in the morning to get a jump on the day, and after fetching Elise some fast food breakfast and waiting about an hour and a half for her to get ready we hit the town.

We had a short time for her to show me all the touristy Olympic attractions, before grabbing the Olympic shuttle bus down to the arena.

First stop: walking across the Cambie street bridge. This is where I got my first taste of the crazy billboards. They were on like half the buildings... and I liked it. For some reason that I do not, know except that it's just in true Elise fashion, she had attached a cow bell to her purse. Every step was jingle, jingle, jingle. Let's just say she got her fair share of strange looks, with a few dirty looks thrown in. I have to admit though, it made her much easier to find in a crowd.

Next stop: Robson square. The lineup to take the 10 second zipline across the square was demented. There were people lining up for approximately 6 hours. I had heard the wait was upto 8 hours on other days. Really? A whole day for a 10 second zip ride? It would be fun, but no thanks. We walked down the stairs to take a peek at the open-air ice skating area, and we were just in time: the mascots were making an appearance! Unfortunately my view was blocked by a bunch of CHILDREN! Ugh! Who let them out in public!

On one street were cutouts of different Olympics sports that you can wedge your body into and take pictures. Unfortunately for me I tried to take the form of a ski jumper... and pulled my neck badly. Maybe this one should be for the kids, after all. Also there were cute little Japanese lanterns strung up that kids from the elementary schools had painted.

We headed down to the courthouse, which was decorated beautifully with large pictures of cherry blossoms. The Olympic countdown clock was here too. Oh, and of course there were hippies protesting the seal hunt. Normally I don't take much notice of protesters... but these ones had cute flags. And no one can resist a cute flags. I mean, "Club Soda, not Seals" !? It takes cute to the next level!

The final stop downtown before heading to the ice dancing for the day was of course, the Olympic cauldron. Of course it was surrounded by an unsightly fence so crazies couldn't try to climb it and set their hair on fire (this IS Vancouver, after all), but it was ok. We got some pics from a little farther away and all was well. It was really cool to see this.

We headed to the bus stop to grab the Olympic bus to the Pacific Coliseum. The best part about the bus ride was the super-loud guy on the bus, who clearly was from somewhere that is NOT Vancouver, sounding off about how he knows everything about the city. And he kept being wrong. For example: "We're heading down now to the TNE." Umm buddy, it's the PNE.

Just as we were entering the arena we saw the man of our dreams: Quatchi. And since I was with Elise, and we're both up for anything, we did what any normal girl in her mid-twenties would do: we ran towards him. We had almost lost him, when he headed down a ramp, so we started to yell: "Quaaaattttcchhhiiiii!!!!" It was great, his "handlers" stopped him, (and Sumi too) and they posed as we took pictures. And then they threw us some mascot pins. It was amazeballs.

We found our seats, watched the warmup, and then the show started. When we had first purchased tickets we'd just wanted any kind of ice skating, and boy-oh-boy, that is what we got. It was the 2nd out of 3 days of ice dance, and we were watching the "Original Dance." What we didn't know was that the "Original Dances" had a theme: and it was "country." So as well as being subjected to some rockin country beats, we also got to experience folk dances of some pretty random countries. This was the dance that the Australian couple had gotten into with their aboriginee costumes.

The Canadians, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir came in second that day, and went on to rock the "Free Dance" to take home the Gold. We were so happy to have seen them skate. All in all it was an awesome adventure, with an awesome friend, at the awesome Olympics.

Thoughtless Thursday!

You know what Thursday means.  Time for ...

Photobucket

And for this week's TT, I wanted to show y'all a few things that have made me happy the last few days. #1, I received my ADORABLE mousepad that my incredibly talented monogramming friend, Ellen made for me. Please behold the cuteness ...

{It's hard to see my monogram on the middle because I took it with my iPhone, but you get the idea. She is INCREDIBLY reasonably priced so go visit her blog and give her some bidness if you want anything monogrammed!}

#2, since we've been missing daddy since he's gone back to work this week, Koda bear and I have been having some quality time together. The night before last, I gave him his doggy crack a brand new tennis ball and I just had to take a picture of him because of the way he had it tucked in his little paw it looked like he was hugging it like a teddy bear. However he woke up and shot me the "don'tchou tutch mah ball" look right as I was taking it which made it even funnier.

{"Sewiuswy mummy, dis is mah ball. Don' tush it, k?"}

And yesterday morning I took him with me to Starbucks and he got himself a puppy latte (i.e. whip cream in a kiddie cup). I would venture to say that he liked it ...

{"Om nom nom, hay mummy I wike dis schtuff, nom nom slurp, k? Slurp, slurp, slurp. Gits me dis evury dey, k? Om nom nom."}

Now y'all know the drill.  Grab the button.  Play along (meaning post random pictures from whatever, whenever and 'splain or don't 'splain, your choice) and come back and McStinky up!  I can't wait to come over and see what pictures you picked!  Happy Thoughtless Thursday loves!!!

My Secret Guilty Pleasure

I started watching Pretty Little Liars out of curiosity.  And it was actually better than I expected.  It's like Gossip Girl and 90210 (the original one, of course) went on a wild murder mystery trip together.  I.can't.stop.watching.  I'm addicted.

Watch it?  Like it?  Tell me your secrets.

A Big THANK YOU & Bumpdates!

First off, holy moly.  I would like to throw a giant T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U out to all of you my wonderful WONDERFUL readers!  I was really just speaking from a place of honesty, to let y'all know where I was coming from when I constantly make fun of myself in pictures and poke fun at the pregnancy weight gain because even though I was "kidding" most of the time, it was coming from a place of truth (in my mind at least).  And as a result I got the best support, love and motivation EVER from you all and I can't explain to you what that means to me.  So again, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, y'all really know how to lift a girl's spirits!!!  I am really glad I was able to speak to a few of you as well that are dealing with the same issue, whether it be in pregnancy or not, and I hope that Natalie Grant's song will pop into your mind when those thoughts start to surface.  And on a sidenote, the CD that that song, The Real Me, is on is ALL good.  I don't know about y'all but I like to know when a whole CD is actually worth buying or if the song is a "one shot iTunes'er" because I hate wasting my money on a CD for one song when the rest aren't worth it.  But that one is.  I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Now, onto the ...

BUMPDATES

And for the bumpdates this week I think I'm going to copy the survey that one of my preggo friends, Elizabeth, put on her blog.  And yes, she's one of the ones I was talking about, who weighs 116 lbs at 16 weeks preggo, but she's a doll and I've known her since she was 12 so I can't hate her (angelic smile)

About the mommy:

Name: Katie Fulmer

Age: 29

Is this the first child?: Besides my giant furry one with a big black nose, yes.

About the daddy:

Name: The Mister

Age: 29

Is this the first child?: That I know of ... but come to think of it, that kid down the street SURE does look a lot like him though?

Finding out:

What day did you find out you were pregnant?: Monday, March 15 @ 6:00am

How did you feel when you found out?: Complete disbelief.  I believe my first thoughts were "Is that a line or isn't it?  IS THAT A LINE OR ISN'T IT!?!?  Why did I buy the cheapest test they had!??!"

Who was with you?: Mr. Toliet.

How did the daddy react?: Shocked, followed by overjoyed, followed by "holy &*$@ I'm going to be a dad", followed by overjoyed.

Telling the grandparents:

How did you parents react?: My mom cried, said "are you serious?" in a tone only dogs could hear a million times and cried some more.  My dad opened an expensive bottle of scotch to toast with the Mister and hugged me for a really long time, my step-dad was pretty shocked, gave me a hug and told the Mister congrats.

How did his parents react?: Completely opposite than we thought.  They are huge criers so we assumed that would be the reaction.  They were totally shocked, plus the fact that we drove all the way over to their house at 10:30pm on a weeknight confused the H out of them at first.  I believe the Mister's dad (who is the BIGGEST crier of them all) said "Well, good luck."  HA!  Now they tear up all the time about it.

How often do they call to check on you?: My dad definately started checking up on me a lot more than usual.  It's hard to tell with my mom, we talk on a daily basis close to 3 times anyways.

About the pregnancy:

When is your due date?: November 24, the day before Thanksgiving.  I really hope he holds out or comes late (first time you'll ever hear a mommy say that ...).  There is some serious craft-fairing/holiday-bazaaring going on early November that I REALLY want to attend ...

How far along are you right now?: 22 weeks!  Wait for it ... here's the V diagram ...

Have you had an ultra sound?: Yep.  3 of them.  I could have one every day and never grow tired of it.  The next one's at 28 weeks and I'm counting down the days!

Have you heard the heartbeat?: Yep.  Music to mommy's ears.

Sex of the baby:

What do you want. Boy or Girl?: I didn't care, but totally thought it was a boy from week 10 on.

Do you know what you are having now?: Boy oh BOY do we!

Are you happy with what you are having?: Definately.  I kind of wanted a boy first ...

About the birth:
Who is going to be with you?: The Mister is the only one besides the doc and the nurses that will be allowed anywhere near the "spread eagleness" that eventually will have to happen.  I'm pretty sure everyone in my immediate family along with the Mister's parents and brother will be in the waiting room though.  They're really good at that.

Are you going to video tape it?: I don't think so ... I'm not sure I want my "spread eagleness" caught on tape ...

Natural or medicated?: Give me the good stuff.  No seriously, like can I have some now?

Do you think you will have a c-section?: I sure hope not.

Do you think you will cry when you first hold your baby?: I cry when people on The Discovery Channel hold their babies for the first time.  I'm pretty sure this one's a given.  I'll be a big sobby mess.  Those pictures are going to be greatness.

Do you know what you will say to the baby when you first hold it?: Probably something that's not comprehensible due to the flood of sobbing blubbering emotion I'm sure to have.  Thank goodness he won't be able to talk yet ...

Are you scared about the labor?: Are YOU scared of something the size of a watermelon coming out of your something the size of a raisin?  Yeah, that's what I thought ...

Names:

Do you have a name picked out?: Refer to the Mister on this one.  He's agreed to a deadline.  First week of August it is.

Is your baby going to be named after anyone?: The middle name yes.

Did the daddy help pick the name?: He WILL.  Is it an option to not let them help?  No one informed me of this ...

Other random questions:

Where was your baby concieved?: In my uterus.

Have you felt the baby move?: YES!  It's my favorite time of each day.

What was your first symptom?: The plus sign on the pregnancy test I took.

Will you have godparents?: I don't think so, I think that's more of a Catholic thing?

Who will be the god mommy?:

Who will be the god daddy?:

What is the babys room theme?: This bedding ...

{And yes, that crib sheet and the detail that looks tan is actually a lime-ish green}

And this crib which we're ordering SOON ...

{This converts to a full-size bed so we'll never have to buy him furniture again.  Kidding.  Kind of.}

Are you ready to be a mommy?: Sure am!  I've been ready to be a mommy since I was 10.  But apparently that's frowned upon ...

What do you think the baby will be a "daddys girl/boy" or a "mommys girl/boy"?: I'm sure daddy's boy.  But I DO hear little boys love their mommas!

And that's about it from me today loves!!!  Sheesh I should hope so this was a LONG'UN!  Have wonderful evenings (apparently I'm an evening blogger now) and I'll see y'all back here tomorrow morning for Thoughtless Thursday!!!

The Home Library

I have been re-watching seasons of Gilmore Girls - man, I love that show.  And I was reminded of the wonderful corner library at the Dragonfly Inn.

Although a separate room for a library would be ideal, we don't all live in mansions. I love how this library is just a corner of a larger room, with a bunch of book cases and a couple of comfy chairs.  I also love the chicken wire on the bottom cabinets - a great way camouflage a vast collection of paperbacks.

So if you have a lot of books and love the idea of a home library, check out some of these library corners.  I am definitely setting up a little reading/library nook.

I love libraries.  Having one in the house is such a luxury.  So even my future dwelling doesn't have a whole room I can dedicate to it, where there's a will, there's a way.

Pregnancy and Weight Gain ...

Warning:  This is going to be a sewious post.  Except I just said "sewious".  Okay for real, from this point on, all seriousness ensues.  I wanted to "chat" about one part of pregnancy that has been hard for me thus far and I feel is only going to get worse.  The weight gain.  Now granted, I'm not doing as much of my part as I could be.  I'm not working out every day, eating only veggies and grilled chicken salads (mainly because both those things still make me want to vom JUST a wittle bit, shoot - we're being serious Kate don't say wittle) and truthfully drinking as much water as I should be.  However, I'm not chowing down on Chick Fil-A, McDonald's and Sonic on a daily basis EITHER.  And thus the pounds are a-packin'.  As they should be.  I'm PREGNANT.  And everyone says "Embrace looking pregnant" and "It's a beautiful time" and "Pregnancy is adorable" which are all true however, telling that to someone who has dealt with weight her whole life (I was heavy during late elementary school and into junior high getting teased to the point of making me consider horrible alternatives in the place of living life) and the mental and emotional toll that takes on a person and the lifetime of work it takes to deal with those issues, isn't something that's easily absorbed.  Don't get me wrong, the belly, I like.  The belly, I LOVE.  I DO think that's adorable.  The fat arms, face, cankles, thalves (calves that not only morph into ankles but morph into thighs as well) and all around balloon-like quality that the rest of my body is taking on I don'tsomuch love.  I love the REASON for it, but I don't love what I see in pictures.  Not to mention the fact that I'm constantly sweating (because it's 100+ degrees daily and I'm carrying around extra weight and puffiness) which always makes a lady feel sexy and dainty.  NOTSOMUCH.  And I'm really just being honest here.  I don't know if anyone else can relate, but it's not easy "watching yourself" gain weight and being okay with it.  It doesn't help when you have friends that weight less at 20 weeks than you did BEFORE you got pregnant.  Now don't worry, heaven knows there is no way I will DIET when I'm pregnant or deprive my baby of ANYTHING while he's growing inside of me, but I can't say that I'm not chomping at the bits to get on a treadmill and start training for another half marathon as soon as my little guy gets here and the doc gives me the go-ahead.  I was thinking about this the other day in the car when one of my favorite songs came on the radio.  If you haven't heard it (and you're a woman) you have to go at least listen to it on iTunes or look the video up on youtube.  It's called "The Real Me" by Natalie Grant.  Natalie Grant had an eating disorder much of her life, so she really sings from a place where I think most of us women can relate.  Feeling inadequate and self conscious of our bodies and uncomfortable in our own skin.  In fact, instead of suggesting you go watch it on youtube, I'll post the video that includes the lyrics here ...

How thankful I am that the Lord sees the real me.  And has entrusted me and my body enough to carry His beautiful creation that he has blessed me and my Mister with, our sweet little boy.  And hopefully this met some of you where you are today.  Remember, HE sees the real you.  LOVE to all of you, my sweet readers!!!

Classic or Boring?

I'm not a trendy dresser.  Most of the items that comprise my wardrobe are some versions of pieces that have been wardrobe staples for as long as I can remember.  Sometimes I'm in style, sometimes I'm not.  I consider my style as 'classic'.  But the word 'boring' has come up in reference to my wardrobe.

We all have our sweats, suits, black dresses, and jeans.  But in addition to those, I can't live without some version of:

The Polo.  Feels like a t-shirt but the collar makes it a little more polished.

The Khakis.  I find them more comfy and versatile than jeans.

The V-Neck Sweater.  More flattering than the crew neck, and can be dressed up or dressed down.  Great for layering.

The Leather Shoulder Bag.  Either black or brown.  Goes with everything.  Comfy.

The Fleece Jacket.  Can be layered with heavy duty outerwear for maximum insulation, but still cute enough for a trip to the mall.

The Birkenstocks.  These make my feet happy.

Argyle.  From socks to sweaters, I heart argyle.

The Pearl Studs.  Go with almost every piece of jewelry I own.

The Cute Summer Skirt.  Summer is for skirts.  They're so cute and girly and comfy.  Can't ask for anything more.
The Beaded Necklace.  I learned to wire wrap and now I make my own.  I love these in all different colors and patterns.

Boring or Classic?

What are your staples?
